Working my way through this dense with characters, historic events, and the author's jokes. Great story!

I am still interested in this rather amazing man, who is the main person responsible for working to create a navy for Great Britain. He lobbied a Duke (forgot his name for the moment) hard for funds and authority to oversee shipbuilding. The last diary is not quite as interesting as the first six, but I hope to finish it by year's end.

I put this aside for a while. Now, back at it, I recollect what was going on, but I am having trouble really getting into the story. Not much has happened yet, and there are all these Latin words for things getting in the way of my progressing. I'll give it some more time in hopes I will be entranced.
Really. This is a terrible book. I'm done.

This is syly funny and seems to be a good mystery. Was reading as a download from the library, but wasn't quick enough. Must get it again to finish

Really was enjoying it - it's got laugh out loud passages woven into the mystery-- but had to set aside because library loans have come in one on top of another. Must get back to this soon!

Don't like the characters or the writing style. I'm done. No stars.

It is a melancholy story. It drags along. Not sure if I can finish it.

Why write a mysyery and then publish it without any proofreading? This is gibberish: "Effram had severed up a delicious dinner...."
Or: "Perhaps it was time to remember a knight road instead of walking...."

I have read one or two other poorly edited books by J R Tomlin, but this one is just unreadable.

Maybe half a star.
Oh gag! Ms Knight is not a decorator. I, myself, am a decorator. I know that fireplaces have mantels, not mantles.

Ms Knight is not a writer, either. She uses drunk when she should use drank, "recuperates" money from the bank; "recuperates" clothes from the closet." What? Seriously, what does that mean?

I gave up any attempt to follow this amateur. It is a mishmash.
