David is 64% done with Ego Is the Enemy
Just reiterating a section I highlighted:
"All of us regularly say yes unthinkingly, or out of vague attraction, or out of greed or vanity. Because we can’t say no—because we might miss out on something if we did. We think “yes” will let us accomplish more, when in reality it prevents exactly what we seek."

Nothing short of amazing to see the stats on the cost to provide free housing to homeless people vs. the cost to pay for legal and social services to take care of them. Even with the stats it has to be pretty hard to get politicians to buy it. It seems like people will have decided a 'right' solution and the facts won't change their minds.

Some of the descriptions of marriage were hilarious, but also right on.

David is finished with A Simple Act of Gratitude: How Learning to Say Thank You Changed My Life
The notes toward the beginning of the book affected me the most, I think, possibly because I was reading some of that right after the Dorian choral retreat which included a fair number of emotional events. To read the words of gratitude coming from someone describing their own situation so bleakly was very touching.

More interesting stuff about the uncertain nature of our existence and how things are not always so simple as they might seem at first. Like plagiarism laws - when has someone stolen from someone else, and when have they just been inspired by them to create something new? The answer is not as simple as you might expect, and the consequences are shown to be serious for the affected playwright.
