I'm a liar, we'll pick this up in a month

I'm going to finish this book in the next 4 days, mark my words.

Part of Huxley's trend of sexism. Even in his made up worlds he can't escape from the idea that women are sexual, weak, and silly. cf. Brave New World

Fun in the same way all Austen is, a little less polished, but it is her first book. I liked the 'Catherine is not a heroine' gimmick at first but thought it got a little stale by chapter 3. Thankfully she drops it soon afterwards. Not sure how I feel about her breaking the fourth wall all the time

Burton: "I'm so clever/special, the creators are only interested in me. I'm a perfect marksman and so strong. I treat my women well, as long as they want to sleep with me and keep house--can't have them going on adventures! I'm an accomplished linguist and obviously a leader everywhere. And I'm definitely not an Anti-Semite, but if I am, I can learn better when it's convenient." Too much war, not enough philosophy!!!

Kind of simplistic writing. Burton's character really rubs me the wrong way. But a fascinating and wildly creative conception of the afterlife.
