A bit slower of a read than I expected--still funny and plays with interesting ideas and places (I've never read a book set in Montreal before for one). A bit postmodern, but a very tame postmodernism.

The prose is a bit underwhelming, but it's hard to tell how much of that is the result of the translation. I was excited to see a variation of Anaximander's model of the universe show up--Liu Cixin's knowledge of physics and universal models is impressive, although mostly wasted on me haha. I'm hoping pacing/development issues I've noticed will be resolved as I get further into the book. Intriguing so far.

This is a book written by someone who thinks everyone is as obsessed with theatre kids as they are with themselves. Reminds me of high school musical lol
"Whispers chased us around the refectory as we poured our coffee. What, everyone wanted to know, would happen [during our yearly production of Macbeth]?"
