Okay I'm sorry but this is so frustrating. Of course there's a character that doesn't want to identify with a gender, whatever, that doesn't bother me. What bothers me is that now the author is going to refer to a single person as "they" throughout the whole book and uses it in a way that is grammatically incorrect. It's so confusing to read and makes the writer sound way less intelligent.
