Brasidas takes amphipolis; he dies in battle. People of amphipolis demolish statues of gagnon, and erect them in favor of brassicas, the spartan. Cleon led the Athenians. Clear ideas took over the peloponessians for Brasidas. Thucydides is pretty much sparse compared with Herodotus. Civil war sucks!

Civil War in Corcyra: Athens and Sparta scuffle in near and around Corcyra; resulting in a horrible civil war. Thucydides discusses civil war and how general laws become repealed, ones which all would rather see left in place. Horrifying.

Plague: affects mainly Athens. Sounds horrific, even in light of that zombie novel I just finished. Not sure why I am readi f the zombie novel. Thucydides seems lime a much better read. Anyway, Athenians seem to abandon religion and honor. Livi g in the moment and glad to be alive. Lightly populated Peloponnesus barely affected by plague.

Pausanias and Themistocles, heroes of the Persian wars, had much in common. Their cases were used to foment the peloponessian war. Pausanias apparently went ver to the Persian side and wound up starved to death in Sparta. Themistocles also apparently went over to Persia and nearly suffers the same fate. He successfully flees athens and dies in Persia.
