If every white male critic under the sun was forced by academia to consider whether they like a work cause it's good or cause of the white and/or male of it, there'd be a lot less buffoonery running around in a masquerade of professionalism, that's for sure.

I'm ten books ahead of my 2013 read count and 2375 pages behind. Effing Proust.

I'm not going to actually be able to start reading this due to 'The Incarnations' being recalled by the library, but expectations concrete enough to stare at and sigh are always nice.

Finished this the same day I turned in my ten page paper. Feels good.

I rarely say that a book needs an editor, but if you're going to make me read sentences such as "He has been strangled and he is dead." on a regular basis, that's what's going to happen.

Historical sensationalism in the vein of 'Under the Poppy' and 'The Fan-Maker's Inquisition' and 'The Book of Human Skin' quickly wears thin. I'd rather be back in the present recollecting than here in the past experiencing.

Munif's like LET ME TELL YOU ALL THE THINGS THAT GOT AFFECTED BY OIL IN THE MIDDLE EAST THROUGH A NARRATIVE OF DOMESTIC POLITICS and I'm like...this is going to make it very difficult to get back into this narrative via sequel read months after the first but 'k bro.
