The misogynistic society Beatryce is coping with does not stop her. Her mother and her friends (and the goat) support her. She is strong.

Will say here: What drew me to SF rather than F is the possibility of life where gender does not determine humanity in the eyes of society. Not that SF always or even often embraces that possibility. Still, this is a charming story!

Sometimes a detail just irks me. Sometimes it's a missing smell. Unless you are a painter yourself, if you walk into an enclosed space where someone has been using oil paint on canvas, I guarantee the first thing you notice will be the smell.

It is so unlike Wodehouse to address social injustice. He apparently visited a tenement, an actual slum (as if they did not exist back home in England in 1915) and was shocked enough that he's trying hard to fight it here. It's not really going well as satire.

I love Wodehouse, but so far I'm unconvinced this is one of his best.

Fascinating! Irwin provides context for Arabic literature, beginning with pre-Islamic spoken poetry. Find another book, perhaps if you just want to read—this one if you want to understand.

Queried agents in the last week about my novel. All the Daughters Sing provides hope even in a "post-apocalyptic" future.

Gena wakes from illness to silence. All of humanity, and every bird, reptile, mammal, fish, and amphibian in the world is dead. Decades later, she begins birthing Daughters who look nothing like her but very much like one another. Then she discovers there are other women like herself.

"Little Girl Etudes" is my favorite so far. Powerful.

Don't miss an opportunity to hear Marilyn Chin read. Her voice is forceful and will assert itself every time you sit down and enter one of her poems on the page. Astonishing!
