Okay, it's horror. Not a great fan of horror, but horror involving children? Oh dear. And so far all the talented children are boys? Hmmm. There's Alice, though. Why do I fear she's going to die?

I believe I read this or the "revised edition" many years ago. The details of Beatrix and her brother boiling skeletons and her isolation as a child are quite clear in my memory.

"this isn't going to have a happy ending" (286).

French is such a pleasure to read.
