One reason I'm over at Booklikes a lot - it's easier to give a heads up on ebook sales, and there were a chunk of $1.99s today: post 1, post 2

Suddenly felt the need to review Dracula. Actually it's more of a warning. I still kinda like the book, but it's never one I'd urge folk to read. Not that I'm rereading it now - have way too many other books I'm juggling at the moment.

Posted here at Booklikes about how I decided I just couldn't give up this particular hardback book. Now to go pretend to pack and end up reading more...

FYI the default is now for all your reviews here to be shared at Amazon. Want to change that? How to: go into Edit Profile, choose the Settings tab, scroll down til you find the box "allow partners of Goodreads to display my reviews" and uncheck it. Then save.

In a pseudo letter to the UK I recommend a YouTube video and grumble that I can't read a book not out in the US, even though I have hundreds of books to read now, that I already own. Yes, I am silly. That's why I alluded to the yetis.

I'm adding quotes little by little to a long review here. And am really enjoying the humorous footnotes.

I went to the library today to turn over a batch of books to their used bookstore. And there were multiple shelves of paperbacks on sale...but I was strong! I didn't stop! ...Ok I didn't stop because I had to be somewhere else. I'm totally going back. Because, books! Sale! Can not resist!

Weird thing about going through all my books - I have borrowed a LOT of books from my folks and not returned them. Oops! (Also dad has loaned me a LOT of Bob Woodward books. Maybe we both can take them to the used bookstore.)

Humorously when I rated the GR Censorship Debate I got a popup window asking if any of the following friends should be notified, as they might like it. I was good, but was very tempted to spam everyone with a recommendation.

Trying some experiments! I'm slowly adding to my Do Not Read Buy Authors shelf. Which I still haven't had any email warning over, so it must be fine, right?

I'm about to dump Scott Adams books in my cull/used bkstore folder. Here's a link that explains why I stopped buying him - it's author behavior. I watched it occur on Metafilter.

So GR deletes user shelves/reviews tells users later, some users then try Booklikes. Now GR tells us BL is causing some deletion bugs. Er, sorry GR, but I've kind of lost trust in your reporting of this sort of thing...

Another Thing Which Isn't Really A Problem, #428: You get an ebook on sale and want to read it right NOW - but you really should read a few of your paper books before they get packed and stored and you won't see them for a while... (I might also tell them before I pack them: "Really, you'll get nicer shelves soon, just wait a bit.")

NPR post on Wrinkle in Time turning 50. I really do need to put that on my reread list...

Blog post by a librarian about the GR issue. Long but interesting: "Readers collectively refuse to review badly-behaved author X’s books, then author X is not rewarded for that behavior because author X’s book does NOT have the objective outsider positive review of approval that creates buyer confidence."

So I just posted on the Neverending Thread here. Because I've had a shelf named for author behavior since last Feb. And no one's emailed or deleted it. Am curious to see if GR will answer a specific question like this.
