This being a collection of essays works really well in some aspects, but sometimes it sounds redundant because they weren't originally meant to be in compilation.

It took this book getting 85% of the way in to briefly mention fandom racism and the existence of people of color, but if it was gonna be done just make the white woman look good and segue into talking about the fat-shaming she faces then I would have rather it just be left out entirely.

I'm enjoying this but I think I would like it more if I hadn't already read Nella Larson's Passing.
