The vision of “comp ministry/life” that Barr’s responding to is obviously horrific & not
worthy of any description other than patriarchal. But so far the alternative vision Barr offers of women’s freedom in the medieval church beggars belief. A handful of outlier female saints does not a liberated society make! But perhaps compared to what Barr has experienced, the medieval age does seem enlightened…?

Over 1/2 way and still an amazing book

I’m already living this book. Listening on audible.

the book had a very explicit scene during the 1st chapter on the character Clem. That was strike one. A 2nd strike like that I’ll be tapping out - anyone want to save me the grief now? I won’t be waiting for strike 3.
Franzen offers searching, though very disturbing, insights into human self-delusions. However, I won’t be continuing with the next two in the trilogy without a comprehensive content review first
