Chapter 3 continued. Over the Iran deal, Mattis and Bolton continued to have tensions until the end. Mattis was opposed withdrawal. Bolton was the biggest advocate for withdrawal. Bolton shows Trump seizing the daylight that he created for Trump on withdrawal. Bolton favors regime change. After withdrawal, Bolton pushes for hardliner and hawkish responses for actions supported by Iran throughout the Mid-East.

Chapter 3 is about leaving the Iran nuclear deal. Bolton continues knocking Haley with some shots across the bow. He knocks her for mishandling Trump's decision to not hit Russia with follow-up sanctions over their support of Syria and Assad. Bolton shows Trump enabling all of this with his push for his advisers and cabinet to make the Sunday morning rounds.

Chapter 2 continued. Bolton presents Haley as inexperienced and beyond her depths, Mattis as calculating and pushing his own agenda, and Trump as scattershot, failing to pick up on the key tactics and strategies on Syria, and fostering confusion on broader US foreign policy. True to form, Bolton presents himself as advocating more aggressive military response to Syria and Assad.

Chapter 2 is on the response to Syria and Assad’s use of chemical weapons. Bolton continues pursuing shots he has to take and the axes he has to grind against his former colleagues and administration officials nameless Tillerson (already purged), Halley, Kelly, and especially Mattis.

Chapter one ended with the first purge of the cabinet. Surprise, surprise, in the first two chapters Bolton takes repeat potshots at Obama’s foreign policy. Bolton remains laser focused on Iran and withdrawal from the treaty.
