There is something off with this one, not sure what. Could be that it's about a writer, with a drinking problem, writing under pseudonym. (As suggested by my buddy in the buddy read...)

Narrative fits story really well.

Does anyone more than me think that if sheriff Pangborn hear hoofbeats, he will look for zebras? Subscribing to the Sherlock Holmes' school of investigative logic he's not...

Started out better than I remembered - maybe original language kicks it up a notch.

I'll won't say this is bad in any way. I will say it's seriously hyped though.

Part 2 - things went from bad to worse for this guy now

OK, I'll admit I'm curious. I have a huge problem with Nick though (when he said "this is where you're not going to like me anymore" was when I went from 'dislike' to 'loathing'). I think it was a mistake to write in his voice - you don't have to like a main protagonist, but it becomes troublesome when you don't want to listen to him. Translation is not flawless either unfortunately...

Oh, goodie, more than 3/4 left and I can't stand Nick...

Swedish criminologist Leif GW Persson (also a very good writer of fiction) has a standing advice to women who live with these guys "Throw the bastard out on his ass" Amy needed to hear that long before this...

The story, while well told, is not enough to warrant this many pages, felt like I read the same thing three times now (and absolutely no advancement or development of the storyline...)

This is highly addictive, short chapters with lots of pay-offs, very easy to fall into the "just one more"-trap.

Getting cold here now, today I went for the last "Ursvik Extreme" for the season. 15 k rough trail according to me - probably more like smooth pavement through the back yard according to my friend Ashley.

Very chilling imagery.

Intriguing storytelling, I though not for about 20 pages but then it roped me in!

Putting in the screws on the "pine cone"-plate side after 8 years was a very sad thing to read...

Very intense and much more explicit than I ever expected! It's a relief that's over and done with. The remainder of the book must describe a proverbial "walk in the park" I assume...?

It's nine in the morning, the end of December / I'm writing you now just to see if you're better / Hell house is cold, but I like what I'm reading.

Not sure about what Dr Bartlett doesn't believe? He seems to believe almost anything but... And a warning: do not start to count the number of "started"! Makes for a choppy read.

So... my first buddy read *ever*, and I'm doing it with Edward Lorn(!) Kind of like doing some light exercise by wrestling Karelin or relaxing with a board game by playing chess against Bobby Fisher - daunting, never boring! So, the book? Starts good, classic horror setup, a bit more extreme than I expected (however not explicit - yet). The list of phenomena puts the 'Poltergeist' house to shame!

I just remembered why I put 4 stars and not 5 on this...

Book III!

Not much hope to cling to for Haven at the moment
