One of the keys to great comedy is the use of irony out of context and Boyne does a great job of this to ice the cake of dysfunctions

It's not often we witness a best selling author known for drama develop characters and plot with the purpose of poking fun at society's dysfunctions. George Cleverly is a true piece of work, his wife Beverly, more so. But it's the children that take the cake in all ways imaginable

Sully is one of the all time great characters who in spite of his childhood issues manages to love others with a sense of hidden joy with a dab of sarcasm. Anyone that has yet to see Paul Newman replicate the character is missing out big time!

Russo does a terrific job with small town character dynamics that incorporates age, relationships and the battle of wit vs logic. This adds to the immersive quality of the storytelling and the ascerbic humor is the icing

Hilarious.. During a discussion between Elizabeth and her boyfriend whose dedication to helping the less fortunate to build a social media following goes extreme when he compares what he does to Jesus. "Can you imagine if he tweeted from the cross?"

The great thing about reading a book for the second time is you find new perspectives and themes. But at its core, Boyne does a great job and poking fun at family, celebrity and social media dynamics along with dysfunctional relationships of all sorts

Anyone that enjoys an immersive story whose characters put a smile on your face needs to add this to their list and better yet, watch the award winning Paul Newman movie!

Russo has the talent to create likable characters that break the mold, make you laugh, wonder and care about. And in some cases they will be so inane you'll shake your head and sigh.. Great writers do that

One of the many advantages of reading a book that has been adapted to screen is it fills in details the script cuts out in order to keep it moving. In this case we learn why Clive Jr, aka the Bank, has animosity for Sully while his mother enjoys having him as a tenant

Clearly one of the strangest, oddball stories ever written but this is expected from a comic who defies gravity or anything else for the matter. Review coming tomorrow

Now I'm convinced he was high when he started this epic dream sequence on the moon. I know since Harold and a dream girl see Carl Sagan wearing ballet slippers inside a space ship made of plywood! Ridiculous!

Gets a bit carried away with a dream sequence that slows the pace to a crawl. It's clear he was stoned when he dove into this. Either that or he's as nuts as Harold!

Incredible in the most obtuse way and obviously a very personal experience by an a comic known for offbeat hilarity

Hilarious... "Incidentally Harold could not spell at all and once spelled the word, spell, with one L.."

I still feel this would make a terrific sitcom or movie

While I know others may disagree, I feel this story has a stoke of brilliance along with the most obtuse humor I've witnessed. Wright manages to drive the story with an undercurrent of unconditional love while mocking today's society. That takes inspired creativity

By an order of magnitude the most unusual, offbeat story I've read though this is what's expected from the author whose comedy speaks for itself

It takes a creative mind to create a character who compares thoughts to vaeitiies of birds flying into a window of the mind. And in this case the birds are like aliens, lol

Harold decided that when he died he wanted to be buried 7' deep for more privacy!

Being a 7 year old in third grade, Harold has a unique viewpoint.. His teacher Ms Yuka would say, "Can I have your attention please" to which he would say, "Get your own attention!"

Hilarious! For those who are unfamiliar with the author, he began with stand up comedy years ago and was cast as the 'oddball' in a number of comedy films..Hard not to think that this is more factual than fictional due to how offbeat Harold's take on life comes across..very, very funny!

While I realize Boyne has a big following and that I'm not part of it, it's my feeling he should write more humor since he shows off his uncanny ability to poke at every element of today's society with style!

While I had remembered how Boyne skewers social media, phone addiction, sexuality and relationships I'd forgotten he leaves no stone unturned. For example a conversation between George with his 26 year old producer is laugh out loud since the Harvard MBA has no idea about famous people in history, US presidents among them!

Beverly Cleverly speaks with her lover as he departs for the Ukraine to attend a funeral.. ".. My body will be in Odessa but my dick will remain here in London with you!"

Now that's what I call nutty!

Reading favorite books a second or third time is like visiting an old friend we care about and may miss. And when the film adaptation stars Paul Newman, you can hear him when reading the dialog!
