What becomes clear when reading bios of film directors/ writers is the majority know of their hits but nothing about the flops and Nora had plenty including a play that closed after 76 performances on Broadway. She had quite a few mediocre films as well.

Fascinating that You've Got Mail was her biggest grossing film and one of the top from female directors. On the flip side, the screen writing collaboration between Nora and Delia on Mail moved to the adaptation of Delia's novel about their parents and caused the demise of their friendship.

Nice. Slocumb does a parallel character arc with both Curtis and his father, though given the fact Zippy works in the dark side of life, I'm guessing his happy ending may never surface is

Wonderful to see a father admit to his sins and do his best to instill trust with his son who was abandoned by his mother. I can understand the trepidation the boy has when his father takes a plea bargain to protect his connection. With his father in prison the child feels like he's alone even though the girlfriend watches over him

Hard to fathom a 20ish drug dealer taking his 7 year old cello prodigy to meet his connection no less show him how he weighs and bags drugs!

The roller coaster rises when she directs John Travolta, William Hurt and Andie McDowell in, Michael, her third highest grossing movie! While I loved the film I'd totally forgotten she was the director!

I doubt most of us are aware of all the films Nora directed since a number of them failed. She went from directing the hit, Sleepless in Seattle, to Mixed Nuts, a star studded flop! My Blue Heaven, the Steve Martin film also failed to attract viewers. Such is life of a writer and film director

If you loved Harry met Sally as much as most, you'll love the chapter that describes how it came together and realize Sally is a fictional version of Nora! And Harry is a fictional Rob Reiner. By the way they weren't sure if the, I'll have what she's having, line would work. But as we all know it was the funniest line in the movie and has been heralded by the AFI as one of the best!

For those who loved Harry met Sally, you'll be pleased to know that Nora's habit of restaurant ordering was used for the character of Sally, aka I just like it the way I like it.. We learn this when she has lunch with Rob Reiner the fifth time prior to writing the script. "Mayonaiase on the side, the bread toasted and lightly burnt and the bacon crisp!"

Talk about blessed. Born to parents who are famous screen writers and becoming a well known feminist, Nora' is mentored by Mike Nichols during the shooting of Silkwood since she collaborated on the script. It's clear the Universe was looking out for her from birth.

It's a curiosity that city dwellers like Nora fall in love with apartments instead of people. I find it rather humorous since I personally prefer open space to concrete, crowds and buses.

Having read and enjoyed his first two, like most authors it's clear elements of his narratives are personal, the mark of a skilled writer. When you consider he's a musician and music educator who pens mystery Brian is a gem of publishing.

Bravo Daniel.. Another terrific installment in the Allon series. The details of the Holocaust and Eichmans counterpart Erich Radek are gruesome and then some. But facts are facts. A nice plot twist at the end caps an engaging spy mystery. 5 star review tomorrow

I can't emphasize enough the importance for all women to read about Nora's life. Not only was she important in the feminism movement, but her commitment to the elements of relationships is beyond most others. In some ways she was a modern day Shakespeare or Yeats via essays, editorials and screenplays.

I also doubt that most women, regardless of age had no idea that Nora was a pathfinder in the feminism movement. Hired by the predominantly male magazine, Esquire, she demanded her stories focus on women. It shows us that change stems from those willing to speak their mind. And Nora was a force to contend with

It also becomes clear that her first marriage to Dan Greenberg was in part, the theme of Harry met Sally. After they divorced, they continued to date since their friendship remained strong. Not long after she was briefly married to Carl Bernstein, and this became the foundation for her book and first movie, Heartburn

While I'm not a regular reader of biographies, of those read this offers unique photos. Nora's first wedding invitations, her famous parents, sisters and more. We also see how the Universe plays a role in her life via coincidence that much like those in Sleepless in Seattle. Truly remarkable journey of one of the most beloved figures in film

I doubt most people familiar with Nora know her parents, Phoebe and Henry were highly successful screen and theatrical writers. Many of their films starred the biggest names in Hollywood during the golden years, Monroe, Astair, and countless others. It's little wonder Nora excelled as a writer.

Sorry for all comments but the bio shares things that weren't mentioned in Nora's personal accounts. When young she was flat chested which was upsetting. I'm 1972 Esquire magazine published her hilarious editorial titled, "A Few Words About Breasts" This gives us needed back story of her humor.

Talk about heart.. While Nora was getting ready for the opening of Julie and Julia, she learned an old friend from camp was suffering from cancer and wanted to see it but wasn't able. Instead Nora had a disk made and over nighted it to her!
