As with all his stories its heartbeat pace rises as we head into the finish

First time I've read a book with a 100+ page afterword packed with facts about the story. As stated previously it's relatively engaging but predictable and far too similar to war movie scripts. I'll give it a high 3 star rating and brief review tomorrow

Nice to see how the author adds a touch of Eastern wisdom when Sam travels through China with an English speaking Chinese woman. It's a high 3 star rating at best though

While reasonably entertaining it's predictable and much like war movies from the old days. Run Silent Run Deep comes to mind, though war movies are my least favorite as are violent action films that lack any semblance of story

We don't often read spy stories where the agent is so proficient at art forgery his copies dupe experts! But this is Gabriel Allon and all bets are off when he's involved

With over 20 installments in the series whose narratives are immersive and engaging, it's sort of amazing that none have been adapted screen. In my opinion these stories are far more interesting than any of the Bond movies and far less violent

Strong resemblance to the plot of Portrait of a Spy but that's expected with Silva. This will likely be the last one in the series I read since I've grown weary of predictably.

And while some may disagree I find it's repetitive and a bit mushy and similar to war movie plots of which there have been been many

Reminds me of the submarine war movies I've seen complete with down periscope and other commands. Good stuff

Unusual for Allon to be caught and questioned by the FSB so early in the story, as is deportation to Ukraine.

Once again the Silva formula makes its way to the plot. Beautiful Russian reporter with inside information about a wealthy Russian businessman with ties to terrorism and hides behind his billion dollar businesses purchases the journal she works for and shifts the focus. In order to get to Ivan Kharkov the trap needs cheese and guess who that will be?

PS this the first mention of Amos Sharret director of the Office

As with all in the series, pacing and suspense prevail. Looks to be another fun episode of the mastermind of spy operations

Fun to read one of the earlier books in the series and one where Allon is on his honeymoon that's about to be interrupted.

While enjoyable I'd be lying if I didn’t say it's a bit contrived. If memory serves there have been similar plots used in movies minus the code breaker element. I have a suspicion the outcome may also match screen plays

Very violent treatment by the Japanese POW commander, Yoshida.. Almost too harsh to imagine. I'd forgotten how prepared the Japanese were for war and the lack of preparation by the US. Staggering how they treated humans as if animals

I'd forgotten how the Japanese treated POWs in the Philippines and it's frightening when compared to Nazi. treatment.

A true page turner

Well paced and engaging with an inspirational theme to boot, I suspect things will darken when soldiers go to war. Very well written and immersive

I'd forgotten Dugoni wrote Sam Hell so it makes sense that this one is a winner so far. I had no idea he'd written so many others though

Fascinating.. Don't think I've ever read a book where there were three authors that collaborate on a story and each unique in their own right

Another major problem with this story is when a new character enters the plot their back story stalls momentum to the point where you want to quit. Jonasson does this in other books but this story lacks humor while the others don't.

Low brow humor can be fun, but not when it's repetitive. This is Dumb and Dumber on paper but instead of two morons we have a female doomsday prophet, 75 year old former business owner and an idiot who's only skill is cooking

A bit disjointed as compared to his others and by far the most racially driven. Were there no author printed on the cover I probably would not have guessed it was Everett.
