I don’t really know what to make of the Father of Marshalsea...

The piece on “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart” was eye-opening.

I’m already sucked in to this. First Dickens novel I’ve read that’s connected with the Dickensian TV show since I’ve watched it.

Quote an accomplishment, actually. The book has an 80 page introduction!!!

The Twins are terrific people.

Smike has returned to the Nickelby’s.

Pretty close to 1/3 of the way through. I quite enjoy this book.

Second time through. Squeers is still a rat fink and I’d forgotten all about what a POS Ralph Nickelby is.

The longest “Introduction” I can recall. About LXXX pages long.

These are devotions in the usual sense; these are more short studies or meditations on Christ and how He has lived thru everything we can imagine and much we cannot.

Having lived in Michigan during this time, and being a wide-eyed 12 year old, this is like going home again.

Thus far, I’m convinced the editor who told Lee to rewrite this was spot on. Of course, this is AFTER reading said rewrite.

I’ve tired of hearing about Watson the Horn Dog. Glad the mystery part is taking center stage.

Getting kind of tired of Watson’s developing foot fetish and the lack of Holmes in the story. Almost like Holmes is a guest star or side show to the author’s desire to hedonize Watson up.
