Now, let’s talk about how it’s often easier for writers to play it safe with their main characters. Will is playing out to be the perfect fantasy hero archetype so far. I’m not even sure why, but my gut feeling? Pacat’s a risk-taker. So I have this expectation of him becoming more than “the beautiful one who saves the day” and I better not be disappointed. Not with “Dark rise” in the title, Ms. Pacat.

More than that, the character of Violet is what’s impressing me the most. The need for her character rather than Violet herself, though she’s definitely growing on me bit by bit. Classic opposite sides trope but very well done so far. Kinda hoping we don’t get any chapter from Tom’s POV, at least not in this first book.

My interest somehow just spiked through the roof with the last couple of chapters, despite the slow start. I’m usually averse to alternating POVs, yet it’s turning out to be a clever tool in building up tension here. Pacat’s such an impressive writer.

How about we develop an over-the-counter pill that prevents you from indulging the impulse to download something like 30 books at once and then having to deal with the conflict of not knowing which one you want to start with first?

It's relatively funny the author is warning that no one will die in this book. As if that is the worst that can happen, right? Not me minimizing death but I'm very much of the opinion that life is so much harder. If everything goes the way I almost wish it will, I have a feeling this'll wreck me. Hysteria's kicking right in, y'all.

Ugh. My TBR shelf is inversely proportional to the books I actually read: the more I add, the less time I have to read 'em.

Update #3: there will be cogitations. Lots of ponderings about the duality of body and soul, about the importance of having a name and most importantly there will be speculations about how psychologists can make each other batshit crazy. (Am I allowed to use bad language or will parents complain?)

The characters in my short story are three. The main is named Ezio, a young man who dreams about drowning in oceans of blood. There's Lorenzo, a barista who thinks the best way to prevent a ghost from haunting him is getting it drunk, and then there's Pier... the imaginary friend who doesn't trust men with glasses.

I decided today it was the time for me to start writing again. I had some ideas for a while and now they demand to be written down or I risk to have my ass kicked. Wish me luck.

I can honestly say the beginning reminds me of Memorizing You, which is quite a good thing. Better saying, we have a college setting, one gay teenage boy who is obsessed by who-he-thinks-is-straight other one, and a female companion to share feelings with. Let's hope the rest of the story does not end like Dan Skinner's, otherwise I'm very screwed here.
