Somehow, Eilis is everything I hope to be? Someone so poised and determined but also risk taking and adventurous. I honestly wish I could two extra hundred pages of this book :(

"I'll never see her again. Isn't that right?"
As she began to cry again, she kept repeating 'I wish I had never come over here'

Basically every estranged's worst fear. I reckon I'm only 3 hours away by flight from home, but the idea of losing someone and not being near them when they are dying or not being able to go to their wake is devastating.

Enter Tony. The pace is much faster now, but there are so many relatable experiences happening that only estranged people go through.

Still waiting for the part about Tony..

"Now all that seemed like nothing compared to the picture she had of home, of her own room, the house in Friary street, the food she had eaten there, the clothes she wore, how quiet everything was"

So far so great. The bathroom scenes are as hilarious to read as they were acted by Saoirse in the movie.

It's an amazingly accurate description of the whole journey a person goes through when they decide to go abroad and be estranged from their families.

Building up to Eilis leaving Ireland, it's about to get reaaaal hormonal up in here

"Things happened to him, like the crying fits, the panic attacks, but they seemed to descend on him from outside, rather than emanating from somewhere inside himself. Internally he felt nothing."

Well that escalated quickly... I know how it will end and it's painful to keep reading but somehow I can't stop either.

Feels good to be back.
