I give up. I can't finish this book, the writing is just too bad.

Ugh, I've managed to tough it out for this long but I may have to give up. The writing is just too bad.

Well, I guess I got to the first sci-fi short story in the book. It sort of feels like a poorly-written cross between Murderbot and a Philip K. Dick story (just pick one, maybe The Simulacra).

One of my least favorite books by Reynolds, but I'm still curious to see how this one ends (given that it's only the first book in a trilogy).

The Luisa story was OK, but unforunately it's over. The writing for the Timothy Cavendish story is horrendous, maybe even as bad as the first story.

Frobisher's story is easier to read than Ewing's, but is barely more entertaining and still has no plot. Luisa's story is better, but I still can't say that I actually like the book at all.

Stop trying to make 'lungstuff' happen, it's NOT going to happen!

This book just isn't as good as, say, Revelation Space or House of Suns. Is Reynolds trying to appeal to a younger audience?

Seems to be more action-oriented, and less sci-fi than Reynolds' other books. Basically space pirates. It's getting pretty good, though.

I dislike this book, so far. Ewing's journal is hard to read, uninteresting, and also pretty racist. Maybe the rest of the book will be better.
