Did I really just read an entire chapter about a fucking clock? Really!?

Was that supposed to be creepy and fetishizing, or did Morgenstern not realize how that came off?

Verdict so far: Plotless self-indulgent word-porn that doesn't conjure up imagery even half as stunning as it tries to force you to believe it is.

I don't know who thought these second person POV bits were a good idea.

I'm not sure how I feel about the third person present tense in this. It makes it feel very much more tell than show.

Every time this book inches towards perfection, we get Bridget slutshaming every single other girl that appears in it. Come on, damnit, this is a good book, the "all other girls are bitches and sluts" stuff just tears it down.

When you're writing a zombie book, from the POV of a zombie, who talks a lot about eating brains, I'm not sure naming a zombie dude Brian Archer is such a smart idea. Yes, I keep reading it as Brain Archer.

I know this was done in the style of a Regency romance, and I appreciate that the authors realize that science fiction can be many different things, but I confess I'm not as enthused as I've been by some of the other books in this universe. I'm just not as caught up by the characters or circumstances.

I'm having a little trouble swallowing Jethri's ignorance and fear of planets. Yes, he was born on a ship and lives a lot on ships, but he trades planetside and at 17, should have managed to accumulate decent experience of things like open skies and planet weather.
