Only intended to read 5 pages or so and here I’m hooked. From the epigraphs, even.

Walden finished, skipping forward to some of the criticism before turning back to Thoreau’s other essays. Beginning Butcher’s Crossing for the sake of dialectics.

I feel like Thomas Hardy was the breakthrough, and now I’m finally beginning to find poetry I truly connect with.

I miss the digressions, even if things are starting to heat up plot-wise (halfway through!)

GR doesn’t appear to have my edition, which is a shame because it’s a pretty one. So far this is just as rich as any other Woolf.

A few pages of this each day on the side sustained me through a painfully underwhelming recent read. More on that later. But oh, this is absolutely enchanting!

I have just read one of the great chapters in all of literature. Of course, context is key, and the patient pace with which the author approached it has had much to do with its glorious effect. Chef’s kiss. Magic Mountain, watch your back.
