'Oh,' said Strange, interrupting, 'I read Belinda to Arabella two or three years ago. Besides, you know, I do not think we will be so long that she will have time to finish a three-volume novel.' Aha, that wit.

More grit, eh? Wary, but despite all of the extreme stuff, the main characters have me interested.

I'll give the show a shot; the story seems better suited for TV. The fantasy is on the peripheral too much, and the bleakness gets taxing. I would've been all over this as a teen, but my tastes have since changed.

Hmm, something about the sheer amount of scenes has made this hard to get through. Various parts sure were neat, but... I don't know, maybe it's the minimal fantasy that's a turn-off (like in Abercrombie's 'Half a King').

Intriguing world, though all of the key terms/people being constantly introduced is an overload. The tone/speech also clashes at times with the medieval era; sort of jarring. Nevertheless, I'm interested in the plot and will continue.

Couple thoughts: Successfully harkens back to the older era in which the characters preside (as well as the narrator), and it has been hard to put this book down. It's like a constant, grand swirling about of the fantastical.

The whimsical style of writing has made Milo's journey very entertaining so far, and the author's points of view as expressed by the world are subtly sensible despite the Alice-in-Wonderland-esque madness (delivered in both plain and complicated fashion, the duality of which is essential). I recall reading just parts of this book in grammar school, so it's great to finally return.

Cora & Clarice: Simultaneously funny & sad.

Some news: my own paperback copy of the book(s) arrived on Wednesday, so now I don't have to keep renewing the one from the library, haha. If all I've read thus far is any indication (and I'm sure it is), then I'm going to be quite happy with the rest of the trilogy.

While the pace is slow at times, this is truly a unique and marvelous story, and the mass of detailing is not wasted at all. Peake and Melville, man--they make me feel like such a tiny writer...but at the same time, a very encouraged one.
