Though dense, I'm enjoying this novel a lot so far. Mieville's panorama of New Crobuzon gives the city a lot of liveliness and depth.

Just got through Chapter 50. What a chapter. Magnificent descriptions... Peake continues to amaze. This might just be my favorite chapter of the book so far and certainly one of the most impactful ones Peake has written. Looking forward to the rest of the novel.

Lots of surprisingly funny moments in the book so far. Peake's got a good sense of humor. Makes for good contrast with the heavier, magical moments.

Not the insightful dive I was hoping for so far. Lots to do with the inner workings of the Stanford Prison Experiment yet little to do with convincing arguments stemming from Zimbardo's thesis. I'm left with more questions than answers but will continue out of curiosity.

Much stronger characterization so far, at least compared to Tangerine. Compelling and consistent so far.
