I hate that I'm loving this book so far but Eleanor and Park are just too cute, especially Park. He's a fucking doll.

Can I just say that I'm only on page 24 and I've already found a bunch of racially insensitive things? Things that don't need mentioning getting mentioned anyway? Stereotyping? It's there in just 24 pages...

This book makes me feel so many things and has caused a bit of self reflection as well.

The state of the world they're in. The level of segregation... Almost makes me root for Mare. Definitely makes me want her to succeed.

What the actual fuck Mare!? Gahhhhh.

This book is an uncomfortable read so far but that makes it no less necessary.

Sarah is a character that I can't help but relate to despite our racial differences and I definitely feel for her. I truly want her to get the happy ending she deserves but due to the period this book takes place in I'm not sure such an ending is possible.

I'm liking it more this go around. Shahrzad is a very brave person cause I would've burst into tears in front of the Caliph by now.

It hurts me how slowly I'm reading this book. It's not that I don't like it because I actually really do, it's just this stupid slump =/

Really loving this so far, way more than I loved Cruel Beauty at first. Rosamund Hodge has a magical way of writing. Super enthralling.

The short story about Klio was interesting but confusing. I enjoyed the big reveal as to who she was but I didn't exactly like or see the point in the plot twist. The one about Lizzie was a bit more interesting with a plot twist I did not see coming.

These stories just keep getting better don't they?

I loved this story of the fates forever reincarnated, this time as Mexican-American sisters during the time of Texas's annexation.

I loved how different and unique the sisters were but felt a strong pull towards Valeria who represents the middle, who is in a sense life. I could relate to her and how she felt both monstrous and human at once.

Also, while I would have been happier with a more positive depiction of friendship and interracial relationships I do agree that she picked the better choice because everyone deserves to be loved and cared for by someone who truly wants to know them on the inside and not just the out.

Anyways, in regards to the 3rd short story. I have to admit that it is so far my favorite. I loved that while it was the first love story in the anthology so far that it also gave us a bit of insight into how interracial relationships worked back in that time period. It had wonderful writing and a very relatable main character.

Just finished the second short story and it was really good. The mix of fact and myth was flawless and the story felt magical despite the chaos and loss going on within it. I definitely look forward to reading more from Marie Lu in the future.

So first things first, I apparently suffer from exhaustion prone dyslexia because I definitely was on page 21 last night and not 12 lol But I'm starting the 2nd short story now and it's actually my first time reading anything by Marie Lu and it is pretty interesting so far. I'm enjoying her writing style.

The first short story was pretty good in the beginning but kind of confusing towards the end because I'm not entirely sure what happened. Did she sink to the bottom of the ocean and die, becoming one of the birds? Or did something else happen?

There's quite a bit of info dumping which I think is pretty normal for a first book. The word fike gives me life and is just so amusing to me. I have some questions that probably won't get answered until the next part of the book is released but that's normal right?
