I’m struck by the experience of reading this book. There is both good, sound, biblical advice and concerning, bizarre, and frankly arrogant claims. It makes for an interesting read - the need to be on high alert at all times because at any moment something strange and troubling might come up, while at the same time there is good advice to glean!

Continues to be tremendous. Praying about how to earnestly encourage brothers and sisters of mine to read this for their benefit, the benefit of the American church, the benefit of ethnic harmony, and the glory of God.

Some bizarre and troubling theological ideas in chapter 2. According to the Pearls, children aren’t born sinners, a child’s soul is in his/her parents’ hands, parents have to equip their children to save themselves, and parents can begin to sanctify their children before they come to salvation in Christ. Dangerous, aberrant, and bad theology.

So far this is tremendous. I wish all my majority culture, evangelical, brothers and sisters in Christ would read this with the same humility and self-doubt that they long to see their abortion-supporting counterparts display.

Lots of red markings and notes regarding bad theology, merciless behavioralism, and lack of sound exegesis. And I’ve only read the intro a first chapter. There is some wise advice here to be sure (marked in blue), but mostly so far this is dangerous and scary.
