At first, I laughed, but it’s actually impressive how the author squeezed in a forced proximity trope. I thought we were in the we-make-a-good-team plot point, and then she blindsides me.

To be honest, I can’t remember the last few chapters.

Take that misogynistic-love-interest-that-I-suspect-will-later-be-revealed-as-a-misguided-noble-gentleman!

This author can write good detail.

I can’t figure out why the author wants Achilles to be so dependent on his mother.

I wonder if the author came to this point and realized it was either take away Achilles most iconic scene, or rewrite the whole book.

Weird now that the book is covering the same ground as the Iliad.

It makes you wonder about the straight women gaze when you have scene like this.

When Thetis said there was another prophecy, I laughed out loud.

I know the author wants this to be romantic, acts of service, but I think it’s more suprising and interesting to think Patroclus was being used as bait. — “…it took me until midafternoon to see that this was Achilles’ doing. His gaze was on me always, preternaturally sensing the moment when a soldier’s eyes widened at the easy target I presented.”

I appreciate the giving of Briseis scenes and character.

Agamemmnon with some wildly advance siege strategy.

Agamemnon reminding Veteran Greek Kings that they need to form lines is ludicrous and one of the many moments in this book where the author indulges the reader. Ugh, and my intentions were to ignore these little quibbles.

Do I have to say it? There’s no logic in holding a farmer’s wife hostage.

Sorry, but Greeks didn’t have catapults back then. “Greek catapults were invented in the early 4th century BC, being attested by Diodorus Siculus…”

I laughed when Patroclus said “He’s not a killer!” after Achilles volunteered to go kill for fame. Not forced but volunteered. Are we shifting to portray Achilles as a sad sexy victim of circumstances?

I still don’t get it. I would at least understand a Dr. Watson and Sherlock Holmes romance

I can almost hear the plot points in this book; they are so loud.

So i’m going to guess that the author will not have Achilles rape Deidamia.
