I’m curious more about who would like this book. Not out of rudeness, but out of curiosity. It’s Hardy Boys with spin-the-bottle angst and clítorises.

This must be the end of Act 1. It would be funny if the ley lines escalated the entire town’s libido like some kind of Buffy episode. Actually, I’ll take anything to get more time away from these two characters.

I’m also tired of these two being assholes to each other for no reason. I know authors needs conflict to fill the pages but I’m just glossing over it.

I still don’t see any redeeming qualities from either of them.

There’s something unsettling about this thirty year old love interest calling his father “daddy”.

Love interest exaggerates a compliment.

When the love interest loves the protagonist’s flaw.

When a gorgeous athletic business person is also well-versed in classical fantasy literature.

This seems to be a popular trope: “…it would have looked duchey on any other man, but one that he was, unsurprisingly, pulling it off.”

Definitely not charming.

I think I’m more curious about the author. Why does she make intimate scenes childish?

I see this book was published in 2011. 11 years ago. I guess I could give some allowances, as the expression goes.

I wonder about hiding sexism in a historical fiction book. Yes, there was sexism and racism in that era, but does it need to go unchallenged in a historical fiction book? There is racism and sexism today, so does that mean that racism and sexism must be included in contemporary books for authenticity?

Doesn’t make sense. I can’t tell if the author is willfully ignorant. should I assume so?
