Over the last four or five crime books, there’s always a second related crime.

Chapter 47: no idea what’s going on.

Aside: I’m noticing that if an author makes a character speak a sexist stereotypes then it’s not the author but part of the characterization.

Chapter 19: Sally wonders about her father’s sex life. Odd, isn’t it?

Odd. — “But what she pulled up was not a piece of wood. It was Dart the weasel.”

Aside: it’s a little odd that I’ve read and seen characters like Kathryn so often that it’s starting to feel familiar. Why do writers love this stock character?

Interviewing the friend. There’s nothing about Det. Perez, yet.

cute but Roz would have realized it’s a mating call. - “But now when the chickadees sang, Roz heard “Oh, what a lovely day it is!…”

Funny! — “The robot’s programming stopped her from being violent, but nothing stopped her from being annoying.”

saying these chapters are short would be an understatement. Chapter four only has two chapters!

A lot of introspection and recalls so far, but I remembe the slow burn from the other Ann Cleeve book.

Aside: It’s strange how I’ve read it so many times that now I expected the victim to be female. I wonder about the consequences of that kind of prejudice.
