First three pages and I am hooked.

What a ripping story. Sickened by the shameful way that the Osage and other tribes in Oklahoma were treated, but par for the course in American history. The writing is excellent, the history full of revelations on every page, and the criminal investigation into a slew of murders on Osage land genuinely suspenseful. Whenever one sings “OKLAHOMA”, remind yourself that the word means “red people” in the Choctaw tongue.

I can’t put it down.

The book itself is an act of performance art, beautifully rendered on the glossy page. An assault of color, satiric anti-polemic and theatrical text turned on its head, this book is taking me inside my own well-seeded Western Civ preconceptions of the Global Mexican mind.

Oh, what beautiful prose. What a delicate world is here. Cruel and yet humane. Victor, there’s the soul of Tennessee Williams in this book.
