I miss SF so. This is one way to quell the ache. A novel of love and self-discovery set in my Bay Area. Scott's prose is so effortless and inviting, it's easy to overlook the keen observations of human nature and the complex situations he is quietly building up. So far so great.

In its brevity, this novella is slow, dense reading. It is so distilled, so starkly captures the private agonies of illness and deceit, a short three-sentence paragraph feels like an entire chapter. Beautiful.

I didn't know what I was getting into. This novella seemed shallow and drab. But now I find it deeply truthful. Quite powerful.

It just gets better.

Every chapter more engrossing than the last. I'm hooked on this terrific first novel.

Excellent read!

Engrossing and evocative.

A bracing, beautifully crafted story of loss. An astronaut returns from the Space Station to personal tragedy. Outer space is nowhere near as vast and lonely as the empty spaces in the heart.

Delectable prose, complex in its construction, kaleidoscopic in its assemblage of memories and deeply layered in impressions that fan out in tributaries of little truths. I'm almost done with this volume and don't lament its conclusion, since another volume beckons ahead.

Divine.

An excellent read into this fascinating history. I had no idea that Mark Twain had such an influence on the literature of California.
