This would be on my Critical Black Theory reading list. It’s a thoughtful meditation such varied subjects such as African American attitudes to outer space (the Columbia Space Shuttle, Lando Carrission, Sun Ra and the NASA spacesuit photo of a young Trayvon Martin) and dancing (Michael Jackson’s moonwalk, Whitney Houston’s inability to Dance, the dance marathon craze that started during the Depression).

The passage in which the author recounts a dream in which he holds a black-faced Al Jolson underwater is riveting on so many levels.

I am so into this book. Every paragraph schools me deeply.
