I watched Jim Jarmusch’s film “Paterson”, which feels like his cinematic version of Williams’ book. A taking in of casual conversations, images, moments, strung together by a man who is not a doctor, but a bus driver named Paterson. It helps me to course through my book.

A difficult, varied-voiced poem, but it aims to build a city; but not only that: the ethos of the city, its abiding spirit, moving back and forth across time, as the narrator goes "Walking" through its park and streets. I can't read but a few pages at a time - it is that dense and demanding - but neither can I put it down. That I've come this far is significant.
