How ironic: one day Franz has both his wife and mistress...and the next, he has nothing to return to. The author Kundera is indeed a master of conveying betrayal in a work of fiction.

On the comparison between a male's lover and his own mother, I reckon the author Kundera is getting a tad Freudian.

For the first five pages or so of the second section, I thought Franz and that "painter-mistress" are totally unrelated characters to the ones on the previous section...until I found Sabina's name mentioned! So...it's a continuation, then!

I absolutely love Kundera's philosophical depth!

When I found out that this novel is semi-philosophical romance, I thought it would prove to turn out as a crappy book, a total rubbish.

Apparently I was wrong. It has an engaging pace so far...

I've read more books in the first two months of 2012 than the entire 2011. It's awesome, I'm much more dedicated to reading now!

I wish I could have more time to to read... The leg to China seems just as interesting as the previous legs of the journey...

P.175 - "...I couldn't kid myself. They were fleeting connections, shallow and temporary and no substitute for the real thing."

Sounds like a phrase I'd use to describe my relationships with American girls here in Kentucky...

I've decided that I'm not gonna touch the Hunger Games trilogy. Sounds like a sci-fi zeitgeist that roars like the next testosterone-filled Twilight. Nah. I'll pass!

It's interesting how the author always starts each chapter with a news excerpt.

The author has a tendency to skip on writing on certain legs of the travel...such as the record of flying from Sao Paulo to Mombasa...it's nonexistent. I hope it's not because he's cheating by taking some comfortable modes of transportation!
