I admire that each chapter represents a character and their dynamics within their family. It gives me a deeper sense of their lives in how they dealt with their broken home family situation.

Currently the book is about the impact of eating disorders and how young people have started disordered eating is bc of society and how they cope with their bodies. Which in the end they get blamed for and seen as an individual issue.

Just a general thought throughout the book, am I… sci-fi blind? Like, I did read Harry Potter and could follow but I’m half way there and I just can’t seem to get ‘into’ their world of whatever it is.. or maybe I’m not in the headspace for it but somehow keep going.

At this point I’m not sure if I will finish reading it, it’s witty and funny but killing the whole family for just revenge without any reflections on the impact it made on her life seems a bit lacking, I said that before, but it’s bothering me.

Well, let’s say it gets unfortunate. Chapter after chapter, I wonder why she just couldn’t stop. It’s all fiction and in the beginning it was thrilling bc it’s my first time reading cathartic murderous fiction but that’s all she is doing at this point? Not much of a character development on how this family has affected her greed for vengeance. Just a little at the beginning.. (so far)

“The body is the beating heart of double-consciousness”. A conversation that we all need to have. That’s all I can say as I just finished the first chapter.

Read the first essay, “explanation and exoneration, or what we can hear”. Eloquently written, though provoking questions and reflections on 9/11 which draws relevant parallels to 7th October 2023, which she asks an important questions on how the global media discourse haven’t touched the subject “how it came to be”, binary thinking which leads to further destruction.

Very light read, I’m notice that I keep waiting for ‘something’ to happen. I would’ve liked more background stories of his grandmother with some history. For me, it’s hard to focus on reading because it’s a slice of life story and I’m impatient.

Only reason why I’m taking small steps to listen is bc juniper is unbearably brazen without any, ANY self reflection. I need time and emotional preparations before I continue ..

Listening to this book is definitely an experience. Where to begin? I know it’s a dark satire from the author about the world of writing and how themes such as privilege and racism are grasped through a white woman having a writers inferiority complex and somehow entitlement at the same time. I don’t know how much I can handle, it’s painful but I keep listening.

On to the next essay of Susan Sontag is “the third world of women” she tried to compare woman’s emancipation to slavery. She argues that as for thousands of years human as species have thought that ‘some’ people were superior. Which became evident that people are being made inferior. As well as the comparison, which screams white feminism. Which doesn’t sit well with me.

Every time I think I can’t gasp further she definitely surprises you with her brazen attitude and denial. While reading, I’m getting secondhand embarrassment and shame as she continues to be insufferable.

Uhm.. yeah. Interesting character development going on, denial .. greed and jealousy. I gasped at her audacity to evaluate her own friendship with Athena with her dishonest friendship. Or should I say, fiend situationship?

Okay I just read the synopsis. A bit too fast with giving my thoughts and a hurdle and plotlines are about to come. One of the pitfalls of going in blind.

Honestly, it’s a rough start.. I find it difficult to hear about the jealousy and constant comparisons between her and Athena. Ironically, I imagine myself reacting to her successes as something as a cheerleader would do. I would love having successful friends bc they deserve to be recognised. It doesn’t say anything about me as a person and what I have to offer. But I will still keep listening.. #staycurious

I enjoy the conversations between Cyrus and Orkideh about DEATH-SPEAK. However sometimes between chapters I feel like im lost where some storylines don’t seem to overlap and have no clue what timeline I should put them in. Maybe it will make sense at the end.

Couldn’t have come at the right time. Much needed reflective essays on the double standards of aging. However it eventually feels repetitive to read women’s and men’s social expectations on age, body and beauty.
