If you follow my reading, you'll know that this book has been on my currently reading list for a long time. I started the print version for a book club, set it down, and decided to wait for the audiobook edition. I'm currently starting the audiobook from the beginning. AND IT IS EXECLLENT.

So far, it's not as good as I was hoping. Most of the advice is the same as other books, but his attempts to make it sound more official and authoritative by referring to studies actually do more to muddle his message than to clarify.

This may be partly because the science of diet is SO bad (studies generate conflicting results, they are quite expensive to run, and many are just bad science to begin with).

Ah... I'm about 20% of the way into the book, and he's doing a great job of laying out the flawed incentives in the food business. It is really interesting to see the studies that show most diets do not work long term, and that exercise is connected with weight gain, not loss. But... I am beginning to see errors in his analysis of studies. Variables that should be isolated are not. I'll explain more later.

I’m listening to the audiobook at 1.75x speed. The author is the reader, and he talks like CAPTAIN KIRK!

It’s actually fun, at least so far.

This is thrilling, terrifying stuff. Audio book is narrated by Scott Brick, who also narrated The Passage, and the telling reminds me of that novel.
