On to the story of his retirement; not surprisingly, the pace has slowed down a lot. The political stuff was a bit heavy.

I'm sensing that we are getting towards the story of his retirement; I've reached 1974.

I liked the bit about Shankly not being too thrilled about going through in a competition not by skill but by winning a coin toss.

Liverpool promoted - good portrayal of Shankly as someone who still isn't satisfied.

The best bits are Ignatius' story and the patrolman having to wear awful outfits. He probably won't last long selling hot dogs.

Feels so far almost like a novel about Sheldon from the Big Bang theory. Wondering if the guy is meant to be autistic or just a complete narcissist.

I have no idea what Jean Valjean will do to Marius

I'm not sure if there will be a happy ending for Marius and Cossette now.

With the surprise appearances of old faces (including Thenardier), I can guess who M. LeBlanc really is, and who the mystery woman is.

I'm getting into Marius' story - mostly his pursuit of this mysterious woman.

Having to get used to the completely new characters like Marius.

That description of the abbey was just a bit too long.

I guessed correctly who the new character would turn out to be; the story involving Cossette and her foster family was shocking.

That was a long essay on the Napoleonic wars, but interested by the new characters just introduced.

A lot of characters, but loving Fantine's story now; Jaubert is horrible.

I'm starting to enjoy this now - hooked on Jean Valjean's story and hope to see more of him soon.

They've just spent some time introducing a bishop; I think this will take several weeks to finish

The Doggett story was almost like HP Lovecraft. Into the mountains of madness

Okay until I got up to the dragon storyline; felt a bit too much like a bad fanfiction on the internet by a 13 year old - veering into the realms of hardcore fantasy.

Good stories so far - interesting hypothetical one in story four with Mulder and Scully marrying!

Realising how the book is quite cheerful compared to the movie, mostly because in the movie, Blackavar gets brutally slaughtered (possibly Dandelion does too). But Fiver can't really be dead - can he? I think that was just a fakeout in Chapter 46.

I forgot a lot of stuff from the story of El-Hrair-Rah and the Black Rabbit of Inle. That story creeped me out when I was a kid.

I just got past Kehaar's first appearance - he's one of my favourite characters. Also, the flashback to the warren being destroyed is still the most harrowing part of the entire book

I love this book, and I'm noticing little thing I'd not spotted before - Silver is the nephew of the Chief Rabbit; I missed that in around 50 readings as a kid

Maybe not as good as the previous ones but I could see the bit where she jumped into a book about herself coming

Good to see things several years after the last book. Now they've made Thursday a mentor so looking forward to seeing where they go with it.

Ive realised now I really don't like Mr Dombey. Something else happened (spoiler) that I predicted.

Still a very hard book to follow; I'm not convinced that (character name withheld to avoid giving away spoilers) is dead

Getting into this now. I'm enjoying the descriptions of Paul Dombey's school.
