This reading is tedious and frustrating, but occasionally insights are found in the text. I feel that much delusion is generated by taking an ordinarily relevant and important principle and blowing it out of proportion. In the case of Dianetic Therapy, the principle is that words matter. They can hurt, but Dianetics suggests that even a word spoken in pregnancy could cripple.

Recently passed a chapter that gave me some dark chills. On one chapter Hubbard really moves to build up the structure of Scientology and fortify it against any kind of critique. Then he progressed to methods of treatment- it's easy to see how he got early success- his Dianetic treatment was really just listening to people and being polite. The 'science' had no bearing on positive outcomes.
