This book's only problem is that it had a prologue. If we hadn't seen that the wooden thingies are dark artifacts the bit where Seregil gets possessed by one would have been SO much more compelling and suspenseful.

I still love it to bits tho

On a macro level the pacing is bad because it takes its sweet time introducing any sort of conflict and keeps jumping to an unrelated POV every time it gets interesting.

On a micro POV the pacing is bad because it wants us to have slow moments with the characters but the characters aren't complex and vivid enough for it to work.

Everyone falls in love in 0.3 seconds
