Ow that I’ve had time to think about it… the candy cane spice scene sounds thrilling in theory, but in theory only.

Why am I struggling getting through this book?

I hate that it’s called “The Power Pose.”

I had grown up in a matriarchal household where women’s voices were the only voices. My mom to this day is a feminist with a booming voice and a strong point of view. She taught me to be unselfconscious about using my voice and drove the lesson home by taking me on nighttime trips through the state parks of Wisconsin.

The introduction alone to this book is amazing.

When Ariel surrendered her voice in its entirety… Swapping her voice in exchange for human legs on a fool’s quest to win Prince Eric seemed like a patently bad idea. After all, her voice was most of what he knew of her. It was her lovely singing voice the prince first heard as Ariel rescued him from that shipwreck. Without it, how could she convey to him all the things that she was?

Well… you ate with that.

I keep finding myself caught in a frustrating cycle of reading slumps. It happens every time I finish a book like Meet Me in the Margins, Yours Truly, Only for the Week, The Neighbor Favor, or Before I Let Go. How am I supposed to keep reading after experiencing words like those?

When does it get good? The book is kind of dragging.
