O-oh Pierre, just every time he appears there's such warmth to this book, possibly a little bit of sadness, silliness too but mainly it's the warmth of character

Occasionally he just forgets his characters or even just that he's writing a novel, not just a hate letter about historians, Napoleon and everyone high up in the Russian army

This book is a TARDIS. I read all evening and am no closer to the end. I mean I love it and it might be one of my new favourites but it's bigger on the inside (and it was already big enough on the outside!)
