I don't know how I missed that this was a series but I seriously thought it was a standalone. I was starting to get worried about how everything was going to get wrapped up. But I guess I don't have to worry about that. Now at least I know it won't be.

This is definitely picking up now! I'm still alternating chapters (with Lyra first) and I'm still happy with how it's reading.

This is almost exactly like a mashup of Harry Potter/The Mortal Instruments/The Infernal Devices and I'm honestly not sure how I feel about that.

Definitely getting some Harry Potter vibes from this one. And loving it so far! Hopefully I'll have more time to read tomorrow.

This is actually super cute so far. Definitely a good middle-grade retelling of Sherlock! It feels like what you would get if you mixed Sherlock with Nate the Great. I love it! And Shelby is absolutely fantastic. Can't wait to see the friendship between her and John develop.

Even when her friend is suffering and needs her help, all Meira can think about is what she's sacrificing. She says she wants to save everyone but all she can think about is herself. And while I think it's totally fine (and 100% realistic) for characters to want to live while saving everyone, it's annoying to read about on every other page.

Why is Dumbledore so dumb in this book?!

I'm getting kind of tired of being reminded that Meira is queen and making choices a queen would make even though she doesn't want to be queen or be making those choices, that she'd rather run wild. I did not think I'd say this at the beginning of the book, but I might actually be enjoying Mather's chapters much more than her's at this point.

I feel like there might be something fishy developing with Theron but the book is so slow I can't really be sure if it's actually something happening or just me trying to come up with something to keep it interesting.

I'm not entirely sure why the book wasn't written with just alternating chapters. I think it would be hard to read Lyra's book straight through without Gemma to break it up because it gets a little boring. Maybe that'll change but right now, I'm definitely more interested in Gemma's story but like some of the extra input from Lyra.

This book changes from first person with Meira's chapters to third person with Mather's chapters and it's driving me crazy. Honestly can't remember if that was a thing from the first book too but each change feels so abrupt and breaks the flow of the book so much, I hate it.

Out of the three main characters, I think I'm liking exactly none of them so far.

Part 4! Stuff is happening! I hope I can finish this tonight.

I feel like we're finally getting somewhere!

I'm getting really tired of this stuff with Tristas and some of the Helene stuff. I feel like I get on such a roll with the story and then these characters slide in and slow everything down. I'm sure their parts become important, I know Helene must be considering who she is now, but I really just want the journey with Laia and Elias and no distractions and no love triangles. Ugh
