Agatha introduces MAVYTH to Mr. MOROS, an elderly gentleman who owns several minds and is very wealthy. She later explains that she is sold her to Mr. MOROS as a wife to get out of debt MAEVYTH tells ALEYSIA, and promises to request her as her Ward once she’s married so that Agatha can’t do the same to her

Before the prisoner is dragged into the woods, he grabs MAEVYTH and starts talking in a foreign language.

During a punishment ceremony, we see the horrible fate bestowed to a traitor to the gods who announced them and the nobles. He dragged naked in front of the congregation branded with a T while his powerless wife and child watch MAEVRYTH is horrified at this, but it’s just tradition and power.

Zevander is confronting a wealthy man about his ownership of vivacantum, a mineral that robs people of their magical ability when it’s mine, but wealthy people wear it as a status symbol. He tells the towering man he is worse than a high mage. The man gives him the ring and the metal melts away to just the element. Z kills the man.

Back home, her cut is tended to. In her attic room, her foster sister Aleysia watches the process of the prisoner and the priests, guards, and red veils. It’s a somber affair. Stepmom Agatha appears to give them shit. They go to the 2nd floor where their two uncles by marriage are waiting for them. Marriage prospects are grim for daughters of broken homes.

A young woman named MAEVRY is anxious about what will happen now that her father is not around. She goes to some ruins and rescues a bird that was trapped.

At the birth of a baby to the kingdom, a mage cast the child into the vain against the parents will. Instead of burning the baby the baby comes out, changed with red eyes.

Worth and Pol decide if Worth will ask to be released. Luc and Charlotte arrive, and Worth agrees to go with them to Sand Manor to settle some wraiths— he’s at peace now and wants to continue with being a member of the Order.

Three months later, Charlotte and Luc are settling into their new positions at court and are St Claire’s memorial. She asks Luc to come home with her to Sand Manor, a proposal.

After the coronation and the party, Charlotte finds Luc in the library. He’s worried people will be afraid of him, now, she’s not. He told he loved her & she never responded, so she does now. They start to have a spicy scene, but are interrupted by a maid, who rushes off. Luc isn’t afraid of himself any more.

The gang gathers for the funeral pyres, and Charlotte tells Micah that she’s here when he’s ready to talk. Artus has archers release flaming arrows onto the piles of dead to lay their bodies to rest.

In Luc’s chambers, Worth apologizes for handing young Luc over, letting him grow up away from Sand Manor, and letting him fall into Lorraine’s clutches. It’s a beautiful moment between the two. Luc begins to chose wardrobe for Artus’ coronation but his wardrobe seems red. Hortense comes by with a wrapped package and they discuss the colors and what they represent. H tells him she doesn’t sense fear in…

A few days later at the peace talks the BROULLIARD emissary gets told by Artus he wants peace, but nothing else. The same emissary tells Luc to come home with his power he could claim the rights to the throne, seeing their king has no heir. Luc refuses. Sequel series?

Micah survived and is in the infirmary wing. He wakes up to Rene waiting on him, and Rene is proud to be paired with him. Cora arrives, and he apologizes for killing her father for choosing the cardinal over the 🤴 & 👸, but she points out her father could have used her as a pawn, but her father let her make up her own mind, at least. They smell vanilla, and Micah’s gut clenches.

Luc overthrows Broulliard with his wraiths, and they win. At the Palace a little later, Marta tells Char she and grandmother are moving home, there’s a lot to rebuild. Worth and Charis ask Charlotte and Luc if they can help set her free, something that’s never been done before. They manage to set her free, and know it takes both of them.

Luc asks Charlotte for her calming ability while he wields larger numbers. At first, it works, but there’s still a strength to the wraiths. Charlotte tells Luc to try empathy, and Luc finds it by taking her hand, and he can feel her power. He feels all their pain and they suddenly dip in acquiescence to Luc.

Luc courageously asks Worth to destroy him if his attempt at wielding the Broulliard wraith army goes wrong. Worth agrees, and Luc makes the attempt. At first, it feels like they want to overwhelm him and turn him into something evil, but he remember the lullaby his mother sang to him, to warn him against becoming the corrupt Broulliard King, and he wields the entire Army.

In battle, Micah is hit, protecting Artus. Viggo rushes to him, and he says “love is courage, courage is love” 😭. Viggo calls for Pol, and Micah can hear Charlotte scream

The battle with Broulliard begins, and I’m scared, there’s still 10%+ left in the book. The Broulliard forces aren’t as organized, but they know the vanguard is coming right as a woman in full black and white bone armor breaches the front lines. Oh shiz.

“Love gives us so much to fight for.” This line reminds him of Sharp as well. 😭😭😭

Luc and Worth make amends, and Luc goes to Charlotte to retrieve Lorraine’s sword. When he opens the case, a letter falls out, but it’s from his mother. He tells Charlotte he doesn’t want her on the battlefield Incase he turns to wielding wraiths like Lorraine and Broulliard. She has faith in him. He reads the note, discovering it’s from his mother.

The order honors their dead, and Charlotte confirms for Marta that Grandier is dead. Worth and Charlotte take Charis’s heart and a Rowan scarecrow and put Charis’s heart in, still with some gray threads. She awakens and apologizes for her stubbornness to Worth. Charlotte leaves them alone.

Rosen points out to Luc that the Cardinal’s headpiece with the bone in it was too vulnerable, and he had taken advantage of that to get past her. He had Luc take the bone in his hand for Charlotte to wield the sword. He gets Luc to test the sword and helmet together.

Micah feels alone & the weight of sadness when entering the war room & father is dead. Artus is thankful to have Micah’s expertise. They look at Broulliard’s advancement and how they will wield the wraiths, and plan.

Also, the cardinal dies

Luke, Saint Clair and Charlotte go after the Cardinal, but are intercepted by CHARIS. Saint Clair finally empathizes with CHARS and manages to stop her. Injures the cardinal and wields her WRAITHS and ends the battle. But they see BROULLIARD soldiers in the distance. They called to get everyone into the palace.
