Talon steps to her aid when one of them pushes her and for a second, she thinks he’s gonna hit her but he doesn’t. The other servers find out andthink she’s done for, but she’s lucky. The prince didn’t walk in right as the event happened.

She wakes up and examines her new room. Upon coming out of the bathroom, she discovers the soul shaped cat is waiting on her bed. It makes her jump, but she does follow it. It takes her to the library where the Matt man is who can see the cat too. He tells the cat to take her back and the cat takes her back to her room where CAHAYRA is waiting for her to get dressed.

While she gets picked to clean up the ballroom, she asked Z about the mask, stranger who is the princes’ right hand. She warns oh to keep careful of what she says. The other three serving girls were conscripted and left behind a lot. Oh, goes to her room and before she can even think about it, falls asleep.

His mask looks like a skull. He speaks to her and sends chills down her back.

She sees a masked stranger in the middle of the dance floor and he is mysterious, not dressed like the others and his mask is silver

The servers have to wear veils to cover up their death marks. They go to serve, and it’s sickening display. But she keeps tripping over soul, shades, or spirits and spirit animals. She goes up to a balcony room to watch, and she can hear the sound of a voicetalking to her and having a conversation, but she can’t see the person.

She is accepted into the castle by a woman named CAMAELYA. After O shows some backbone, and her death marks, she takes her to the preparation room where the other servants are getting ready for the night and introduces her to three other girls who she will be working with observing tonight

She finds the tavern where the royal staff is recruiting, and due to a lack of volunteers they announced they will be conscripting if nobody volunteers by tomorrow. All goes up and volunteers for staff, and they immediately send her off to the castle. She doesn’t even get a chance to say goodbye to her brothers, even though EMYL is a dumbass

I got it wrong RHYON and E. MYL are not twins. R is the baby of the family. He comes back from the tavern in the morning and insist oh take a job as a servant in the castle, which will give them enough money to survive. R seems to have the plague so oh decides to go to the castle for work and to try to find the cure for the plague to save R’s life

When RHYON has calmed down he comes home and talks to ODYSA about their mother‘s death. Oh explain that if they all get jobs, they can probably stay in this house for a while EMYL and RHYON just want to go out and get drunk on the money. Their mother left the twins alone. They want to get a better job to support them. What ass hats.

The older of the two, RION, blames her and tells her he wishes she could’ve died instead he isolate behind his bedroom doorand she begins to understand why the prince holding himself up to avoid the plane.

They go back-and-forth horrifically making him scared that he’s killed her when M uses the black flame to draw him out in Morticia. They make love and some of his trauma is considered. As she gets up to make a meal for him. She finds a loose floor board and discovers a Seller under the cabin whereALEYSIA is curled up.

She also used SABLEFYRE to turn ease body into Ash

When Emma goes outside, she sees he has passed out, but she’s actually been infected. Ease body resurrects and runs after her. M is so scared, but she doesn’t want to leave. See even though he’s unconscious.

Emma wakes up in the morning to find Z NCATEGHORIA. He comes back in with her and they try to bring his fever down. M and says she can control the dark flame inside him. They start taking his clothes off to bring down the fever only to see his piercings and the markings of his time is a slave.

As they are laying in bed together, Z sees a creature that is CAVADEROS. They speak, telepathicallyand C explains. He is connected to DORJAN and if he dies DORJAN dies. See imagines having sex with him, but when he chokes her, he tries to stop but C won’t let him

They did it. Well, kind of it was oral Olympics. He lead on about being a slave to the Solassians & what he went through.

She mentions her brother, who was actually a child she sacrificed to cross Umbravale, but it made her unworthy, just like what happened to Aleysia. She found Maevyth though & did a spell to disguise her silver eyes that will stay in effect until death. The infected people will come out to hunt at 3am, she sends them to bed.

They run into the Crone Witch, who tells her it’s been months since the banishment ceremony, and spider bites infected the people. She’s managed to avoid it. She explains she was Nilivir and accepted by the Corvikae, and can remember the genocide to the Crussurian Trench near the Grymswood. The people were eaten by Solassions. Cadavros is the creature in the woods that crossed Umbravale

In the morgue in the basement, Uncle Felix finds her and is a Moros Mutant now. She narrowly escaped him raping her, and Zevander arrives and is tender with her.

MAEVYTH is in Winter in the eating Woods but ALEYSIA is gone. She looked well taken care of like she was recovering from the banishment, but she can hear her sister calling her name. She learns better and doesn’t respond. She comes across her old cabin and it looks like it’s been abandoned for years not just a few weeks.

Z finds DOLION who tells him that MAEVYTH is his mate, and he saw it in his vision. He can’t say anything to the contrary, which proves his point he decides to take the portal into the woods to try to find her.

In the confusion MAGES kidnap M and she wakes up being sacrificed in the underworld. The sablefyre turns them to ash, but D and R arrive. Melanthia does too, and offers to take her back to her sister. M has to decide who listen to: Melanthia or Dolion?

Z gets accosted by General general, LOYC and she is creepy and predatory. Then he comes across ANATOLIS the guard that was in the mortal world and in this one. He asked about ALEYSIA who was set to emerge from the Woods with MOROS but he doesn’t know what happened to her. The more the interrogates suddenly the guard begins to choke on his blood. He’s been bound from talking about it.

I personally find the becoming ceremony really creepy and perverted, and I don’t really understand why it was necessary to the story to have a ceremony where a girl basically gets raped. But since this is the first time I’ve read Kerry Lake. I will give it the benefit of the doubt and wait in on the series as a whole. This is completely unnecessary.

She goes with R to the Becoming Party in full disguise, and sees a guard who had been in Mortasia before. Z catches them, but lets them stay to avoid arousing suspicion. It’s dangerous for a mortal to be so close to the king.

Tim knows that when Bray attacked he had some goodness left in him and he was able to hold back. RYKAIA agrees to take her to the woods after the becoming ceremony for the princess.

The next morning M has a difficult time remembering what happened the night before. The news comes. She’s going to be leaving soon. RYKAIA refuses to take her to the woods instead. M listens to the horror story of what happened when her mother died and she was forced to hold her mother‘s hand and feel all her pain and help Bran attacked.
