In several ways this books is stronger than the first, and what I'm most enjoying is the expansion upon the location of Green Creek itself. It truly feels like I'm getting a full picture of this pack and this place.

Yet I've been taking quite a while to finish because I've never felt a particular need to hurry the story even with some high stakes. Gordo is more emotionally distant than Ox to me, which is a factor.

I've been thinking about this book more and more lately, and I realized that I really want to reread it. I miss Ox and the Bennets, and I recall the story being so perfectly heartfelt and angsty. Now that I know what to expect, I wonder how I'll feel about the weaknesses I thought it had the first time through.

Very standard fantasy so far but with a good (somewhat creepy) atmosphere laid over it. The constant train of conflicts is a little tiring, though -- would really like some time to slow down and focus on the characters. The humans are also very boring compared to the non-human cast.

Oh, already this is fantastic. I was not expecting to be so quickly taken by this book.
