Really mixed about how I'm feeling with this one so far. The world reads very surface-level to me. There are a lot of name drops of various locations and events without anything to make them feel real. The prose is decent, but are quite a few scenes here that I feel like don't contribute to my understanding of the characters, themes, or world. The investigation is rather boring. The two romance leads seem promising.

Reread at a rate of one chapter every two days or so. In this one for the long-haul!

This is a leap above Winter's Orbit. Rather than the politics and the romance being completely unconnected for most of the book, this time they are one in the same. The leads have a great dynamic, and I'm enjoying all their scenes. There are close to zero romantic moments between them even halfway through the book, but there is a slow growth of their importance to one another -- exactly as I like it.
