Found this book while trying to research for my final project this semester. I'm focusing on the rhetoric of the child-free by choice movement. I have ended up reading almost half of this book so far, and I will probably get through the whole history section before I stop, so I'm counting it as a read for the year. It's actually super well written, if the history of the childlessness interests you.

I've had this book on my wishlist for a while, and the book on my shelf for a year, but my library just got the audiobook. With all the research I'm doing for my final project this semester, audiobooks have been my soul method of reading. But excited to get to this and mark another one off my shelf and personal backlist challenge for this year.

I am 100% the audience that needs to hear book characters talk about how no one has a plan, everyone in the world is winging it, it's okay to figure it out as you go, and don't compare yourselves to others who look like they haven't it all together because they don't.

I got so close to finishing this but am not on they *very* long waitlist at the library to get it back. Probably going to be 3 1/2 stars but I'm actually really looking forward to getting it back and finishing it, more than I thought I would be.

This story is /very/ predictable but it is still written well and I like all the characters. I'd read more from this author in the future.

Right now this is in DNF land. Might go back to it to try after The Banned Bookshop but we'll see. Feel a little more motivated to push through since I have a physical copy but that might not save it.

Looking for heartwarming middle grades or middle grades with adventure and stories that suck you in with really memorable characters. Would also love some really good romcoms (without the miscommunication trope or too heavy backstories) and some fun/entertaining fantasy or adventure YA (but I haven't had great luck with this so far). A test/trials/academy are always hits. But nothing super heavy or triggering.Thanks!

Ralph not Vernon. Vernon is a cinammon role to be protected. Ralph is the actual worst.

Maggie may not be able to think through the consequences of her actions, but Vernon is the *actual* worst.

Even as someone who is in college, I think it is bananas that we expect teenagers to understand exactly what they want to do with their lives enough to pick an appropriate college, program, and classes and take on debt to set up the path for the rest of their lives. Know some schools have exploratory majors but I wish there was a "try a day at different jobs and in different classes" we could try.

Man. The main character's feelings about her mom hits reeeeal close to home but it was my dad. I really hope the author handles this well and doesn't suddenly make this mom super redeemable and with some deep dark secret backstory.
Also, I love the insta love to hate path. I hate instalove so I was hoping it wouldn't be sunshine and roses from page 1.

Life is heavy. Time for some romcoms.

I care very little about this plot or the characters and the world feels meh. Reminds me why I need to read books before buying them in hard copy.
To DNF or not, that is the question.

I totally forgot the synopsis but when The Book was like "She's going to be fine." I immediately thought "she's absolutely going to die."
I guess I really paid attention during the dramatic irony lesson in sophomore English 😅 🤣

I'm still not a big fan of Dex. He is very one-dimensional, even though I'm sure we'll find out something later on about his deep dark past that proves the contrary. But I do really like LuLu, and I love seeing Stacy back. I'm glad this is the last one of this series, but I am planning on picking it back up when I get the audiobook back from the library.

I know that Dex is going to have some torrid past and tender side and we are supposed to hate him but I HATE him. I like LuLu though!

As a North Carolinian, it makes me smile that this is set in NC. Reminds me I need to visit the Ren Faire next year.

Got a hard copy of this last year and really wanted to get to it this year. Shout out to Scribd for making the audiobook available! Need a win and I'm hopeful about this one.

I can not be the only one who listened to the audiobook and thinks that the voice of the Cave dude/caste ghost and the voice of the personal haunting the MC this whole time sounded NOTHING alike. Like, please explain to me why the dude sounds the same after awaking from the stone but doesn't sound like that at all for 90% of the book? It's clearly not that the narrator can't do the voice!
