I've been reading poetry a lot lately as 1000 page novels aren't my jam after suffering a head injury a year ago- my 7th or 8th diagnosed. The (generally) more compact nature of poetry is easier for me to digest.

I'm so excited to read this as this ought to be the first truly contemporary (as in 21st century) poetry collection I've ever read. So far it's a delight!

Ok... the prose is awesome. The content is disturbing.

I have a weird personal story about a high school teacher of mine who was 22 telling 15 year olds this was a "feminist liberation" story.

Yikes. I'm not sure how she came to that conclusion, and if anyone has insight there I'd be curious as to how a 22 year old art teacher connected this literally to Gloria Steinem.

Nauseating. My pharmacists are loving my breakdown of this abomination. It'll take me an eternity to read as it's not only biased & inaccurate- the prose is devastatingly poor.

I have 3 ladies in real life deeply excited for my review!!

My grandmother loves this novel. When I finish it I want to visit her. She's not in great health but wanted to talk to me about Harper Lee and Truman Capote being friends, but her caregiver wouldn't let me get a word in.

I hope I'll be able to discuss this with her. Such a popular "school reading list" novel but I've never read it. Completely new to me. Not my favorite thus far.

Frankly I prefer Capote.

A deeply satisfying read. After not really loving "Coraline" but enjoying Gaiman's prose I have finally discovered a novel from him that completely hits the mark.

Mysterious but in a quirky and playful way. As a reader I have a lot of questions so thank goodness this isn't a book where the mystery is literally "told" to you. Curious to see how Gaiman wraps this up.

Teddy Wayne might be my favorite contemporary novelist.

Honestly- this isn't the best thing ever but it's compulsively readable and it's completely fun! It is a bit like the Golden Girls with the characters all having their strengths and weaknesses, plus the intra-group bickering is hilarious!

Somewhat refreshing. A black comedy.

The novel I'm loving but will never finish! For some reason I just can't push through it. I'm hoping this week I will. I've been making good progress with my reading; mainly due to sleepless nights.

I see my friends' ratings and I seem to be enjoying this one more than others. Idk. I love weird, sort of pointless novels like this. Although this does have social commentary that I feel would've been relevant at this time. I do agree with readers that making the book focused on BOTH a fake religion as well as nuclear issues is a little schizophrenic feeling. Love Vonnegut's prose. My first novel from him.

I think this is sort of light and fun stuff honestly. Killing Eve (when it was good) meets the Golden Girls (which was always A+++).

Currently enamored with this and the two equally intriguing but different tales. I hope Murakami doesn't let me down like with the Elephant Vanishes. It seems well written and a better translation imo.

This is on hold because my local library is getting rid of the ebook from their collection. When I can save some more money I'll track down a copy.

Shocker! McCarthy is releasing two new novels this year! His first work in 16 years if I understand.

This is a devastating read with an emphasis on classic sinful behavior. I do find it rather disturbing but in the hands of Cormac McCarthy it's compulsively readable. This one is almost dreamily atmospheric in spite of its filthy subject matter.

McCarthy is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. Disturbing subject matter, but the prose is unique and radiates with its own strange beauty.

This apparently takes place in the rural Appalachians and the atmosphere is dead-on for the night drives I took in eastern Tennessee...saw some strange things.

I am pleasantly surprised!! I hated what I'd read previously from this author but this is fun. Not realistic at all, kinda predictable, but fun in kind of a soapy way.
