I've been stuck on this book for so long due to school interrupting, but now I'm able to get back into it and hopefully finish this and move on The Reaper at the Gates.

I truly appreciate how unapologetic Tracy Deonn is with the discussion of race and colonization. I was crying so hard throughout the chapter "Root" because it was so impactful on the ways people of color, more specifically black people, have used spirituality to heal from generational traumas. This means so much to me as a non-black person of color who learning and working on their ancestral work.

God there's so many things that I'm relating to on a personal level. On top of that, I really enjoy the themes this book is tackling, such as: immigration, gender roles, corrupt government, revolution, sexuality, and Machismo in the Latinx community.
